Anglers furious as EU bans them from keeping ANY sea bass in emergency ruling

Commercial fishermen have also seen their quotas halved for catching the fish, but they will be allowed to land up to five tonnes per vessel.

The decision, made to stop a collapse of the population, has been slammed by the Angling Trust which called the extra restrictions “unfair”.

David Mitchell, head of marine environmental campaigns at the Angling Trust, said the impact of recreational angling on the bass stock had been exaggerated.

He added the European Union should have focused more on reducing pressure from commercial vessels using nets, adding that many anglers would give up fishing next year because they would be required to throw back any bass they caught.
