Angling; Salmon anglers information on the River Taff

THE 11 River Taff salmon anglers who completed the E A Wales log books to monitor the river’s results provided information on 142 fishing trips and a total of 537 hours fishing.

The total catch was 65 salmon with the heaviest weighing 16lb and the average weight 7.25lb along with 28 sea trout to 8lb with an average weight of 2.25lb.

Every fish caught by the anglers taking part was returned alive to the river.

Figures from the Agency’s fish traps at the weirs record 15 salmon at Treforest Weir; 68 at Radyr Weir and 59 at Blackweir.

Lee Evans, Paul Jenkins, Kieron Jenkins and Terry Bromwell were on the banks of the Merthyr Tydfil AA stretch of River Usk at Mardy for the opening day of the trout season and caught brown trout averaging 12oz on nymphs.

Daniel Popp and Mostyn Reynolds headed for the Association’s stretch of River Taff for opening day and both caught a couple of brown trout using the ‘klink and dink’ method of fishing.
