Bats rescued at St Fagans National History Museum after blaze

A small fire at St Fagans National History Museum saw a colony of Lesser Horseshoe bats rescued from the blaze.

Fire crews from Ely, Whitchurch and Cardiff Central attended the incident, which was reported at around 10.30am.

A spokesman for South Wales Fire and Rescue service said that the 50 bats were relocated from the first floor of the tannery building at the museum. The fire occurred on the ground floor.

The building is a bat conservation area.
