In September hundreds of school children attended Penygraig RFC where the Blues held a training session with children and teachers looking on. After the training session the players were able to meet all the children with free posters being handed out for autographs.
At the Brecon event, junior fans will again be able to watch the Blues carry out a training session to see what it really takes to make it as a top rugby player. After the session players will be on hand to meet supporters, sign autographs and pose for photos.
The training session will begin on the rugby field at 11:00am and youngsters from around Powys are invited to join the event. The Blues will be training until 12:15pm when we will move to the Christ College Sports Hall for a meet and greet with the players. Junior fans can get autographs from some of their favourite Blues players.
The Blues have launched a new initiative to help promote community rugby whereby juniors, aged 16 and under, can allocate their rugby club when they purchase a Junior Season ticket for £40 and the Blues will give £6 back to their mini and juniors section.
With 19 clubs in Cardiff Vale, 23 clubs in Taff Rhondda and 14 clubs in Heart of Wales coaching nearly 7,500 minis and juniors, over £33,000 could be put back into mini and junior sections in the region.
By purchasing a Cardiff Blues Junior Season Ticket not only will youngsters be helping put money back to your mini and junior section but they will also be able to see some of the biggest names in Welsh rugby such as Leigh Halfpenny, Alex Cuthbert and Sam Warburton playing for the Blues in Europe’s premier club competition The Heineken Cup.
A Cardiff Blues Junior Season Ticket gives entry to 17 home Cardiff Blues games, which works out at only £2 a game with £6 going back to clubs
Speaking of the Brecon visit and Cash back scheme Cardiff Blues star and Brecon product Sam Hobbs said,
“Everyone at the Blues is looking forward to our visit and I’m especially looking forward to returning home to meet some of the youngsters.
“I think that the Junior Clubs Cash back scheme is a great idea and allows youngsters to come to watch the Cardiff Blues play for only £2 a match.
“The scheme also allows the Blues to give £6 back to the mini and junior sections of the clubs.
“I know from growing up and getting involved in rugby how important the mini and junior sections are to the clubs.
“The money can be used for kit, coaching, rugby trips or whichever way the clubs see fit.
Steve Maggs, Development Director at Christ College, said:
“We’re really looking forward to welcoming the Cardiff Blues to Christ College Brecon.
“It’s a great opportunity for our pupils, and indeed the pupils of others schools in this part of the region, to watch the Blues’ coaching team and players in action.
‘We think our facilities here at Christ College lend themselves perfectly for an event such as this and we are looking forward to working with the Blues to make the event a memorable one for all concerned.”
