Cardiff puss in boot: Chips the cat in car rescue drama

EXACTLY what possessed this cute cat called Chips to climbinto the lining of her owner’s sports car is likely to remain a mystery.

But what was unavoidably clear once she had managed to wriggle her way inside is that there was no way of getting her out.

Whether she was just curious, or a car fan so in awe of her owner’s blue MG that she wanted to explore every nook and cranny, the one thing Chips is not is an escapologist.

Her baffled owner called the RSPCA, who came out to the car in Pentwyn, Cardiff, but had to advise her there was no option but to call the fire service and cut open the car to free the  distressed Chips.

Luckily, firefighters were able to remove a panel with the help of the owner’s car mechanic and the relieved cat was cut free with only a few superficial injuries.

RSPCA inspector Danielle Baber said: “Cats can get into all kinds of scrapes and tight spots, but this is the first time I’ve seen one trapped in a sports car.

“I’d really like to thank the fire and rescue service for once again giving us the benefit of their expertise and patience.”
