Cardiff’s new US diner delays opening

Cardiff’s new American diner, NYD, has had to delay its opening because its co-owner is a little busy at the moment – he’s playing in this Wednesday’s Euro 2016 semi final.

Wales international and Birmingham City player David Cotterill is still in France due to the historic success of the Welsh team in the world famous tournament.

So the New York-inspired diner will open slightly later than scheduled while David and the rest of the Welsh team get ready for their most important match so far, playing Portugal in the semi finals.

David has teamed up with owner Shaz Haris, who has more than 15 years of experience in the hospitality and events industry, to create an American-style dining experience on City Road. The venue will now open on July 18.

NYD New York Diner will be serving up authentic American classics, by head chef Cesar Telesca.

Burgers and grills can be accompanied with their specially made 24-hour marinades and there will also be vegetarian options, creamy shakes and a sensationally sweet dessert section, including cheesecake, waffles and sundaes.

Harris describes the restaurant as having an “effortlessly cool feel to both the menu and the diner itself, something exemplified by our main inspiration, New York”.

Cotterill says: “We are all on an incredible high at the moment and everything else has had to be put on hold at home as we strive to make Wales proud.”

He added: “I’m looking forward to launching NYD New York Diner as soon as I return, it’s going to be a fantastic dining experience for Cardiff as we hope to deliver quality food in a unique venue. But right now we are all focused on the task in hand and getting to the final”

David is not the only Welsh star that has had to miss out on an important event, team mate Chris Gunter will have to deliver his best man’s speech for his brother’s wedding via Skype, as he will be unable to attend the ceremony in Mexico due to Wales’ phenomenal success so far.

David will certainly get a hero’s welcome at his new project and those lucky enough to have been to one of the Welsh games in France will also receive a free celebratory Hot Dawg on the launch day.

NYD New York Diner opens on July 18 at 157 City Road, Cardiff CF24 3BQ. For more information, visit www.nydcardiff.co.uk
