Thousands of adrenalin-seekers will be taking part in a 5k race with a difference tomorrow – Gung-Ho! Cardiff .
The giant inflatable obstacle course taking over Bute Park in Cardiff for one day only is the brains of CBeebies presenter Alex Winters and he was in the Welsh capital today to try out part of the course for us.
Watch him as he tackles Thriller – the final obstacle which will see participants climb up and slide down Europe’s biggest ever inflatable slide, measuring in at five stories high and 200ft long.
They are just two of a host of obstacles which the competitors will be getting to grips with.
When plans to bring the inflatable adventure course to Cardiff were announced, Alex said he wanted to capture the essence of TV classics such as It’s A Knockout.
“One Saturday evening I was watching Ninja Warrior with my kids and it sparked something. Why not do something similar, where everyone can be involved?” he said.
“I thought about Total Wipeout and, It’s a Knock Out and it went from there. We just want people to come along and wet themselves laughing while doing this course!
We tried out Slip N Slide – this is the 500ft waterslide
Alex wasn’t the only one testing the course, writer Rachel Stock tried Thriller too and this is what she thought:
“After watching the event organiser Alex have a go on the slide I could not wait to try. Alex warned me; “the hardest part is the climb”. This was true.
I stubbed my toe on every step on the way up which slowed me down quite a lot. Once I reached the top, this was was when the fun began. To be completely honest I was a little frightened but this did not stop me.
As I began to go down the slide the first thing I noticed was how fast I was going. It was extremely fast! It was the kind of speed that gives you that tickling feeling in your stomach.
I reached the bottom quite quickly and this was when I had to battle with the bouncy floor until I reached the end stretch.
The final part of the obstacle course, Thriller is much harder than it looks and with exhausted legs I’m sure it will be even harder!”
