Cricket: Penarth’s Peter Docherty has a field day against Pentyrch

PETER Docherty (101 not  out) and James Erasmus  (95) put on 152 for the  third wicket as Penarth  reached 291-4 against  Pentyrch.

Andrew Simms also  made 39 and then took  2-24 to help get Pentyrch  out for 230. Dan Grossett  scored 79 and Dave Tallis  50, while Simon Wilkinson took 3-39.

Chris Wragg scored 91  and Gareth Owen 45 not  out in Pontypridd’s total of  239-7 against Chepstow at  Ynysangharad Park, with  Josh Tregaskes getting  2-36. Paul Bennett made a  fine 80, but Chepstow put  up the shutters and were  175-6 at the finish. Liam  Stacey took 2-20 for Ponty  and Scott Parrish 2-30.

Radyr decided to bat at  home to Tondu and managed 220-6, with Alun Williams getting 54, Phil Butlin 46 and Tom Skirrow 29  not out. Tom Jenkins took  3-44.

Neil Raikes and Nathan  Skoines both made 32  when Tondu batted, but  they could only manage  177-8. Leg-spinner Rhys  Mander took 3-19 for  Radyr and Dan Stone  2-37.

Abergavenny went in  first at Crofft-y-Genau  Road and were bowled  out for 179. Ryland Wallace scored 51 as Phil  Makinson took 2-11 for St  Fagans and Dave Hopkins  2-12. St Fagans got the  runs for six wickets thanks  mainly to a fourth-wicket  partnership of 95 by Tim  Nicholls (86 not out) and  Gareth Lennon (38).  Andy  Timpson took 2-36 for  Abergavenny.

Usk defeated Sudbrook  by 21 runs and Panteg  overcame Welsh Asians  by eight wickets.

The Asians set a target  of 188 all out in which  Azmat Khan scored 53  and Sohail Rauf 25.

Tom McLaren made 54  in the Panteg innings leaving Rhys Salkeld (38 not  out) and John Lewis (41  not out) to do the rest.

BLACKWOOD reached 227-7  against Barry in Division Two  Second XI, with Martin Evans  making 56, Steve Hall 52, Carl  Gwilt 39 and Sujeewa Senerathne 20. Aaron Smith took  3-28 for Barry.

Smith then scored 76 and Rhys  Howell 72, but Barry finished 11  runs short of their target as Martin Ebdon took 2-27 and Kieran  Rowe 2-36.

Hosts Malpas were dismissed  for 140 against Croesyceiliog,  with Richard Jones scoring 64  and captain Dean Boothroyd 34  as 15-year-old James Scarborough took 4-27, which included a  hat-trick, and Huw Kear 3-30.

Croesy cruised to 141 without  loss, with Peter Mason making 78  not out and Luke Kear 55 not  out.

Miskin Manor held visitors  Creigiau to 148-9 in which Dewi  Evans scored 77 not out as Rob  Smythe took 3-23 and the evergreen Mike Cockell 2-21.

Steve Needham (67 not out)  and Alan Croft (31 not out) then  steered Miskin Manor to a  nine-wicket win.

Rogerstone lost to Lisvane and  Newbridge collapsed to 56 all out  against Newport Fugitives at  High Cross. Rob Simkins took  3-8, Rob Franklin 2-3, Mike  Heaten 2-7 and Gavin Rodway  2-8.

John Chorley got 32 not out as  the Fugitives won by nine wickets.

John Barnett made a superb  119 as Vale reached 224-6 against  Brecon at Corntown. Tom Johnson added 27 and John  Humphries 26, while Adam Kinsey took 2-38.

Reg Starkey scored 44, David  Osbourne 35 and John Edwards  22, but Brecon were 200-9 at the  close. Nick Hogben took 2-20 for  Vale and Kevin Jones 2-39.

Machen got Llantwit Fardre  out for 141 in Division Three  Second XI.

Mike Maguire made 47 as spinner Robin Jones took 3-20 and  Nick Hatton 3-22.

Hatton then scored 61 and Dale  Stibbs 36 not out as Machen  made it by seven wickets with  Ben Dunn taking 2-39 for  Fardre.

Martin Newell made 103, Aled  Jones 51 and Ian Morgan 32 as  Monmouth managed 247-5  against Dinas Powis.

Dan Pearce (33), Andrew Ford  (27) and John Clogg (22) tried  hard, but Dinas Powis fell for 174,  Jones taking 4-34.

Pencoed could only reach 120-5  off their 45 overs at home to  Whitchurch Heath with Graham  D Davies getting 36 not out and  Alistair Waterhouse 23. Ben Pike  took 2-25 for Heath and Richard  Hopcroft 2-20.

Gareth Lucey then made 55 not  out and Tony Coombs 38 not out  as Heath strolled to a nine-wicket  victory.

Dan Battle made 51 and there  were 40 extras as Ebbw Vale  made 158 all out at Pontymister.

 Pramod Naval took 9-0-25-3 for  Pontymister, Gareth Price  7-1-37-3 and there was a wicket  each for Haroon Ali, Akhtar Ali,  Ghulam Abbas and Kieren Sharratt.

Sharratt then blasted a superb  104 not out and Abbass 25 not out  as Pontymister replied with  160-3.
