Cricket: Tallis chips in with bat and ball to topple Saints

PENTYRCH restricted  third-placed St Fagans to 186-7  when they went in first at  Ynysangharad Park in Division  One Second XI.

Joe O’Gorman got 72 not out  and Pat Keane 46 while Dave  Tallis took 3-25 for Pentyrch.

Tallis then got 30 not out after  Hywel John (66) and Huw Morgan (35) had set the foundation  for victory. Hareth Lennon took  4-23 for the Saints.

Penarth got revenge for their  first team’s  defeat by overcoming  Sudbrook at the Deepweir.

Andrew Simms made 73 and  Andy Jones 53 as Penarth totalled  189-6. Veteran Gordon Voke took  3-25 for Sudbrook and John Clements 2-27 off eight overs.

Matt Spencer (44) and Robert  Voke (26) almost got Sudbrook  there but their last wicket fell 11  runs short of the Penarth total.  Simms took 2-33 for Penarth.

Tom Brooks (70), George Lewis  (45) and Richie Morris (42) led  Usk to 248-4 against Tondu at  Bryn Road.

David Rees (78no) and Paul  Grabham (38no) put up the shutters to salvage batting bonus  points after Tondu were in  trouble of losing.

Dominic Rees took 3-20 for Usk  and Pat Rodden 3-23 which included a hat-trick in his first over.  Brian Dickinson scored 90, Scott  Bailey 63, Tuhin Gavand 55and  Paul Bennett 45 as Chepstow  piled up 297-5 against Welsh Asians at Llandaff.

Etisham Malik made 66 and  Majid Awan 40 but the Asians’  reply stuttered to 220-7. Dan  Price had 2-25 for Chepstow.

Barry did the double over Vale  with a convincing victory over  their visitors in Division Two  Second XI.

Craig Brock badgered his way to  106 when Barry batted and Aaron  Malpas made 49. Luke John took  3-36 for Vale and Lee Jones 3-45.

Tom Johnson (33no) and Carl  Brookes (32) battled hard but  Vale were dismissed for 143. Martin Baker took 4-21 for Barry and  Kieron Ferriday 2-22.

Brecon were well beaten by  Miskin Manor and Croesyceiliog  lost to Newport Fugitives.

James Scarborough (64) celebrated his first senior half-century  for Croesy, Adrian Webber made  49 and Huw Kear 39 all in vain as  the Fugitives  chased it down.

Stuart Drury took 4-20 and  Gwyn Bowen 3-24 as Blackwood  were bowled out for 87 at Lisvane  who got the runs without losing a  wicket.

CARDIFF Gymkhana dismissed  visitors Monmouth for 135 at  Llanrumney in Division Three  Second XI with Dave Wilding  getting 44 and Steve Morgan 40  as Paul Franklin took 3-9 and  Ismail Saqib 3-17.

Ibran Mian then made 61 as  Gymkhana jumped to an  eight-wicket win.

Dinas Powis made 183-8  against Machen with Mike  O’Donovan getting 71, and Andy  Ford 26. Dan Fussell took 4-42  for Machen.

Simon Keane then led Machen  to victory with 64 not out and  Miguel Nurse scored 39. Gareth  Marks took 2-29 for Dinas Powis,   Gareth Evans had 2-40 and Will  Mardell 2-43.

Nayeem Islam scored 49 not  out and Ryan Morgan 38 as  Ebbw Vale reached 170-6 against  Ponthir at Eugene Cross Park.   Matthew Woodward had 9-3-20-2  for Ponthir and Jordan Thomas  4-1-10-2.

Ponthir got the runs for six  wickets with Alan Burkitt  scoring 56 not out, Woodward 37  and Cian Morey 23. Nayeem  Islam took 9-2-21-3 for Ebbw  Vale and David Clarke 9-1-39-2.

Leaders Pontymister piled up  352-9 at Pencoed with Gareth  Price scoring a magnificent 147,  D Akhtar 71, G Razan 25 and  Alan Hughes 24. For the  overworked Pencoed attack,  Tony Kennett had 3-76 and Ryan  Bater 3-99 from eight overs.

Pencoed then collapsed to 76  all out, helped by 42 extras and  the best with the bat was Alistair  Waterhouse with 12.  D Naval  had 5-25 for Pontymister and H  Ali 2-11.

David Lewis cracked two sixes  and five fours in a rapid 50,  Mike Maguire hit six fours in 35  and Gareth John 22 as Llantwit  Fardre reached 164-8 against  Whitchurch Heath. Dave  Reynolds took 4-26 and Jacob  Pakinathan 2-28

Gareth Lucey then hit a six  and 10 fours in his 78, Huw  Owen two sixes and two fours in  31 and Tony Coombs was 30 not  out when Heath got the winning  runs. Matthew Ball took 2-24 for  Fardre.
