Gavin and Stacey’s James Corden confirmed as new host for American talk show

Ruth Jones’ Gavin and Stacey co-creator, James Corden, has managed to bag the job of late night talkshow host in America.

Corden, 36, will take over from Scottish presenter Craig Ferguson on the Late, Late Show on CBS.

A relative unknown in America, Corden won a Tony Award in 2012 for his Broadway performance in One Man, Two Guvnors.

“I can’t describe how thrilled and honoured I am to be taking over from the brilliant Craig Ferguson,” said Corden in a statement. “To be asked to host such a prestigious show on America’s number one network is hugely exciting. I can’t wait to get started, and will do my very best to make a show America will enjoy.”

It is not clear whether the show would stay in Los Angeles but a statement from the network said: “The creative elements, as well as the producers and the location for the Corden-hosted Late Late Show, will be determined and announced at a later date,” the network said in a press release.

CBS’s interest in Corden, star of The Wrong Mans and the Paul Potts biopic, One Chance, was first reported in August.

“Corden is a rare entertainment force who combines irresistible charm, warmth and originality with a diverse range of creative instincts and performance talent,” CBS entertainment chairman Nina Tassler said in a statement.
