CARDIFF: Grand Medieval Melee featuring the Tournament of the Knights in the grounds of Cardiff Castle. Squire, maidens and stewards in full costume gather to watch the knights take each other on. Lots of demonstrations, parades, competitions and displays today and tomorrow. Costs  £5 for adults and £3 for children. Tel: 029 2087 8100


CARDIFF: The Red Dragon centre is being transformed into a balloon-made paradise island for Doctor Bob’s Balloon Art Festival today and tomorrow.


CARDIFF: Family ghost walk, kids activities in Llandaff, from 7pm. Family ticket is £15 and individual ticket is £4.50. Tel: 029 2087 3573


BEDWELLTY: Annual show at Blackwood Showfields with lots of animals, one of our favourite kids activities to see and education about the countryside. It is £5 entry. Tel: 01633 440281.


LLANTWIT MAJOR: Horticultural Show between 2pm and 5pm at the leisure centre. Open to all exhibitors, covering all age groups of children and first time exhibitors are very welcome. Admission 60p adult and 30p child. Tel: 01446 796551.


PONTYPRIDD: One of those kids activities best appreciated by older kids, Display by the Black Mountain Birds at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, between 11am and 4pm. Hawks, falcons, owls, vultures and red kites. Tel: 01443 404699


CARDIFF: Many kids activities are centred around animals, this one is atSt Mellons Community Dog Show at Meadowlane Primary School. Classes include the dog with the waggiest tail.


CARDIFF: Family summer weekend at the Wales Millennium Centre and it is all free. Children’s craft sessions, face painting and live performances. Tel: 029 2063 6464





NELSON: Military re-enactment and falconry to entertain a King as part of The King’s Fair at Llancaiach Fawr Manor. Falconry displays and lurcher and ferret racing and re-enactments. Tel: 01443 412248.

VALE: The Vale of Glamorgan Agricultural Show at Fonmon Castle is always a great day out for all the family. This year it features the Kangaroo Kid motor cycle display. There will also be a food hall, horticultural show, home produce marquee BSJA show jumping, sheep shearing demonstration, fairground, bee keepers and sheepdog trial display. Entrance is £10 for adults and £5 for children.

CWMCARN: If you go down to the woods today you are likely to find a Teddy Bears’ Picnic at Cwmcarn Forest Drive.
