Mott’s Glamorgan future set to be revealed

GLAMORGAN are set to reveal the future of head of elite performance Matthew Mott on Tuesday.

The Australian arrived at Glamorgan in March 2011 having led the New South Wales to Sheffield Shield, Big Bash and Champions League success.

Mott, who is contracted until March 2014, was initially handed the first team coach role under managing director of cricket Colin Metson following the resignation of Matthew Maynard.

The following year Mott was promoted to his head of elite performance position with all responsibility for first-team affairs, a position he has held for the last two summers.

Mott has been unable to produce any silverware for Glamorgan and there has been little progress in the county championship.

But there has been a marked improvement to the one-day performances this summer and while Glamorgan just missed out on Twenty20 quarter-final qualification, two victories in their final 40-over matches against Leicestershire and Yorkshire could still result in a semi-final spot.

Mott has also signed successful imports Michael Hogan and Murray Goodwin.

Glamorgan are expected to release a statement on Tuesday and if Mott is to leave his role, the county will consider looking at reorganising their coaching structure which currently involves former players Robert Croft and Steve Watkin.

Former Somerset director of cricket Brian Rose has been acting as a cricket consultant with Glamorgan this year, while another Taunton stalwart Jimmy Cook has been handed a short-term batting coach contract at the Swalec Stadium.

Glamorgan last week announced the first part of their plans for next season after star all-rounder Jim Allenby signed a four-year extension until 2017.
