Pedestrian and motorcyclist taken to hospital following early morning crash

Two people who were injured in a collision in Newport on Sunday morning remain in hospital.

A pedestrian and a motorcyclist were taken to hospital following a two-vehicle collision on Malpas Road.

Gwent Police have confirmed they are in a stable condition.

A man who was driving a car and who is in his 80s is being held in custody at Newport police station.

Gwent Police and crews from the fire and ambulance services were called to the scene of what was described as “a serious crash” on Malpas Road near to its junction with Pillmawr Road, at around 7.30am.

The injured people were taken to the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and the University Hospital of Wales in Cardiff.

Malpas Road was closed following the collision and officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the accident to call Gwent Police on 101 quoting log 169.
