If you looking for something to do in September then you may want to consider the annual Porthcawl Elvis Festival a celebration of Elvis Presley in Porthcawl.
This classic Welsh seaside town offers a unique celebration of the ‘King’. The events take place over the weekend of 25th to the 27th and are held annually at the magnificent grand Pavilion. The host ” the host ‘Hi-Tide’  put on over 100 shows at the weekend many of those are free admission. When you add in the fact that there are an additional 20 venues in and around the town forming a fringe festival it does become a great thing to do in September.

Elvis convention PorthcawlThe official sponsor of the event is Hi-Tide and the Porthcawl Elvis festival hosts over 50 ETA’s, better known as Elvis tribute acts, they perform over 100 shows in and around four bars over the weekend.

Porthcawl Elvis Festival – The Elvies Awards

What would Elvis tribute artists enter the celebration for?  Well obviously it’s the Elvies Awards. These Elvies Awards are not a competition and the awards are made throughout the year based on the festivals discretion.

Finding the Porthcawl Elvis festival is easy and straightforward it is located in Porthcawl 30 mins from Cardiff where the views look over the Bristol channel, if you’re a good swimmer it’s only about 18 miles to Lynton !

Porthcawl Elvis convention The headquarters of the celebration are at the Grand Pavillion on the seafront and is really easy to find.
Saturday afternoon is a good time to visit as you get two shows for the price of one, that is the second heat of the ‘Best Festival Elvis’ followed by the grand final, and this is the night for the Elvies Awards, there is also a traditional Elvis gospel show which takes place early Sunday afternoon. This is followed by Elvis at the movies produced by Mike Nova. The final show of the Porthcawl Elvis festival is on Sunday night is a trilogy of three sets performed by Elvis Tribute Artists including Sun Studios, the ’68 Comeback Special and finally a full Vegas show.
