The Bluebirds’ preparations for the 2016/17 Sky Bet Championship campaign begin in earnest this Wednesday, as Paul Trollope’s men travel to The New Lawn to take on National League side Forest Green Rovers.
Tickets for this match will be available on the gate or via Forest Green Rovers’ website (North Standing).
City have already been put through their paces both in South Wales and in last week’s training camp, as they look ahead to a busy pre-season schedule which includes an eight-day tour of Germany later this month.
HEAD-TO-HEAD WITH FGR
The Bluebirds have played against Forest Green Rovers to begin their pre-season preparations in three of the past four seasons.
From those matches, City have lost one, won one and drawn one, both scoring and conceding a total of five goals against the Gloucestershire-based side. Our first meeting in 2012 saw a 1-0 defeat for the Bluebirds, while in 2013, City scored four at The New Lawn to come away with a 4-3 victory.
LAST TIME OUT
Our most recent encounter with Rovers saw City held to a 1-1 draw at The New Lawn as part of an unbeaten pre-season ahead of the 2015/16 campaign.
Both sides fielded different teams for each half, with former Bluebird, Jon Parkin, wearing the armband for Rovers in the opening forty-five.
Joe Ralls and Craig Noone impressed early on, with Ralls seeing a long-distance effort tipped against the bar. Soon after, it was Noone who cut in from the right to pick out Joe Mason, who opened the scoring for City.
Mason was in the thick of it again as he was brought down in the box to earn the Bluebirds a penalty. Peter Whittingham stepped up, but sent his spot-kick wide of the left post, and City were then made to pay when Forest Green’s Aaron O’Connor headed home a late equaliser.
