Simon Emanuel was last night crowned the Welsh Unsigned Stand-Up Award winner 2013 at the Glee Club in Cardiff.
The 28-year-old part-time children’s entertainer from Swansea saw off stiff competition from five other finalists to scoop an array of impressive prizes which includes a £1000, a paid weekend slot at the Glee Club and an appearance at the Wales Millennium Centre as support to TV star Alan Davies at the Grand Gala Finale of this year’s Cardiff Comedy Festival, which is held on July 28.
Emanuel, who has recently established a number of comedy clubs in Scandanavia, triumphed in a fantastic final, which saw sterling performances from fellow comics Cook and Davies, Bethan Roberts, Daryl Perry, Brendan Common and Rachel Fairburn.
The competition, now into its fourth year, has unearthed a series of winners who have all gone on to establish successful comedy careers after scooping the WUSA crown. These include Taylor Glenn (2010), Matt Rees (2011) and Jordan Brookes (2012).
