Steyn Brings New ‘Energy’ To Glamorgan

The addition of South African pacer Dale Steyn to Glamorgan’s T20 Blast squad will bring a new ‘energy’ to the Welsh county, according to captain Jacques Rudolph.

Steyn, who arrived in Cardiff over the weekend, will make his Glamorgan debut against Essex Eagles at The SSE SWALEC tomorrow (Wednesday) night.

And compatriot Rudolph, who has known Steyn for more than a decade playing with and against him in South Africa, said Steyn’s pace will be a useful weapon for Glamorgan.

Rudolph said: “Timm van der Gugten has shown with a bit of extra pace the kind of X-factor we need in our team. With him and Dale in the same team, we can be really excited about that.”

Glamorgan will be looking to make it two wins out of two after a thumping eight-wicket win over Surrey at The Kia Oval last week. Rudolph said the addition of Steyn can only boost the Welsh county’s hopes of reaching the quarter-final stage.

He added: “He’s a good friend of mine, we’ve played with and against each other for many years. He’s a great guy to have around the dressing room.

“He’s very energetic, very humble and he also has lots of experience so it will be great to see him in the side for the Essex game.”

Steyn, who spoke to the media on Tuesday after his arrival in South Wales, was raring to go and pledged to give everything to help Glamorgan win as many games as possible.

Steyn said: “I want to run in and take wickets and I don’t want to go for any runs, but unfortunately I can’t guarantee that. But something I can guarantee is that I’ll come over with a lot of energy and help the side on and off the field and give my best when I have the ball in my hand.

“Anything can happen – I can bowl a bad ball and get a wicket, or a good ball which can go for four. Hopefully in the next month if things go well, we can win a few games, the club will enjoy it and we get some crowds in.”

You can watch Steyn and Rudolph in action for Glamorgan as they host Essex Eagles at The SSE SWALEC from 6.30pm tomorrow night. Kids can attend the match for £1. Tickets available here.
