A student accused of sexually assaulting a woman in Cardiff has been acquitted after the prosecution offered no evidence.
Saudi national Khalid Alahmadi had been on trial at Newport Crown Court but the case collapsed when the jury were unable to reach a verdict .
The 23-year-old, of Bute Terrace, Cardiff, had pleaded not guilty to the sexual assault of a 19-year- old woman and was due to face a retrial.
The incident was alleged to have happened in Cardiff’s Gorsedd Gardens in the early hours of September 24 – during fresher’s week.
But at a hearing at Cardiff Crown Court on Tuesday, Judge Eleri Rees QC told the student he was free to go.
