An “unsung hero” is the latest Llandaff North resident to be recognised by local councillors.
Janet Jones is the latest winner of the Llandaff North community champion award.
The award, given by Cardiff councillors Sue White and Dilwar Ali, recognises the work of individuals who have made a difference to the community of Llandaff North.
Mrs Jones was nominated by Eddie Thomas.
Years of hard work
He said Mrs Jones was always ready to help in a quiet, unassuming way.
“She has been an active member of All Saints’ Church for many years and she does everything from cleaning to organising and taking part in church services.”
Many local people recognise Mrs Jones having seen her cutting the hedges of the church grounds and from the help she has given to individuals and groups.
“For the past 14 years, Janet has been helping the homeless of Cardiff,” said Mr Thomas.
“She has been organising Llandaff North’s contribution to the Rainbow of Hope which provides food, clothing, and support to the homeless.”
Mrs Jones has also helped with collections for Cardiff Foodbank.
“Mrs Jones is a real unsung hero, always ready to help anybody who needs it. She does it quietly and unobtrusively, not for any personal recognition or glory,” the councillors said.
“She makes a real difference in Llandaff North and we are delighted to present her with our community champion award.”
