Watch as RATS invade the garden of this horrified grandmother

This video shows the grim reality a Cardiff woman was faced with when she looked out of her back window on Thursday morning.

Vivien Soloman, 58, peered out of the window into her garden to see four rats roaming freely on her lawn and patio.

She said she was shocked, particularly because her home in Tremorfa is just a stone’s throw from Willows High School in Cardiff.

Vivien, a carer, who often has grandson Frankie, seven, at home, said: “I had only just put my washing out there 20 minutes before.

“I was shocked. It’s such a safety concern, particularly seeing as there are children round here going to the school every day.

“My grandson comes here quite a lot but this is not good. I have never seen this many rats in my garden before. I want something done about it.”

Vivien has lived in the house, which is now managed by Cardiff Community Housing Association (CCHA), for 25 years.

She said although someone who lives nearby had been helped by CCHA and given poison to help deter the rats, she was told the association would not help or lay down poison for her until the situation had deteriorated further and the rats were inside her house.

Vivien said the rats may be there because of a neighbour, whose house is also run by CCHA, whom she said fails to upkeep their garden.

Matthew Thomas, director of CCHA’s customer and community services, said: “We appreciate that problems of this kind are very unpleasant.

“We are liaising with the tenant of the neighbouring property to ensure that they comply with their responsibilities to maintain their garden.

“The issue of rats being present only came to our attention in the last day or so and we will endeavour to attempt to remedy this problem as soon as is practicable.”
