Angler catches enormous 20-pound goldfish in lake after using biscuits as bait

An angler was shocked to reel in an enormous 20-pound goldfish he caught by using biscuits as bait.

Hunter Anderson, from Danville, Kentucky, caught the orange whopper in a private pond near his home Saturday, and proudly posed for a photo with his catch before releasing it back into the water.

Anderson’s sister Cassie shared the photo on Facebook, and joked about whether it was an old pet called Bubbles they’d flushed down the toilet as children.

She said: ‘What you are witnessing is NOT national geographic! It is not a stolen image or edited photo!

‘This is my brother!! Who is holding what could possibly be…. that pet goldfish we flushed when I was 9!!!…I swear, I thought you were dead bubbles!!! lol lol.’

Afterwards, Hunter told WKYT how he landed the amazing catch while headed home from a trip with his girlfriend.

He said: ‘I guess people have just never seen anything like it. I know I haven’t.

‘What am I going to do with it, really?. I thought it deserved to swim another day.

‘Maybe somebody else will catch it. Maybe a kid will catch it and be as happy as I was. I was jumping for joy.’

Local wildlife show Kentucy Afield said the fish is a Koi that either escaped from its pond during a flood, or was dumped there by an owner who no longer wanted to care for it.

They can live happily in the wild, just like other species of carp, but very rarely reproduce in the wild.
