Car fire closes eastbound M4 between Cardiff Gate and Castleton

A car fire on the M4 is causing delays because of a large amount of smoke.

The blaze briefly closed all three lanes of the eastbound motorway between junction 30 Cardiff Gate and junction 29 Castleton, but police said all but one lane are now open.

Fire crews from Duffryn and Roath were called to the car, which was said to be “well alight”, at 5.20pm.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service said all three lanes of the motorway were closed because of the smoke.

All three lanes have now reopened.

The fire service said nobody was injured and no evacuations had to be made.
