Cardiff City’s under-18s excellent run in the FA Youth Cup came to an end as Chelsea grabbed a 2-0 win to progress to the quarter-finals of the competition.
Facing the favourites of the competition, City’s task was always going to be tough, but an early goal for schoolboy Dominic Solanke made it all the more difficult as the 16-year-old fully capitalised on a miscommunication between the Bluebirds’ defence and ‘keeper to give the Blues an early lead just four minutes in.
Just a goal behind the Bluebirds always maintained their hope, but as Chelsea pushed to put the game beyond doubt it was left to Alex Kiwomya to net the Blues’ second with just twelve minutes to go and secure a quarter-final place.
