Cricket: Struggling Fugitives inflict first defeat on Croesyceiliog

DIVISION Two leaders  Croesyceiliog were stunned  by losing to bottom side Newport Fugitives at High Cross.

The Fugitives had first  knock and a third-wicket  stand of 105 by Nigel Pryce  (80) and James Didcote (89)  helped them to reach 252-8  with Chris Bridges also getting 24. Ex-Pentwyn all-rounder Sam Saunders took 3-56 off  10 overs for previously unbeaten Croesy.

Tom Kear got 33 in the  Croesyceiliog innings, Lewis  Pheasant 30 and Saunders 25  but they were dismissed for  214 in the 49th over.

Fugitives captain Roy Emmott bowled a mix of left arm  swing and spin to take 4-50 off  10 overs, Tim Barnes had 2-40  and Richard Jones 2-44.

Creigiau were put in by Malpas at Bettws Lane and set a  target of 254-6 in which, Alex  Moore made 94, Tom Lloyd 57,  Tom Innes 43 and Adam Jones  20 not out. Rez Hassan took  2-47 for Malpas.

Malpas almost made it as  Dave Martin made 57, Peter  Mason 40, Craig Margetts 26,  Christian Rose 24 not out and  Leighton Watts 23 but they  finished on 232-9.

 Seth Griffiths took 3-46 for  Creigiau and Lloyd 2-40.

Miskin Manor batted first at  home to Brecon and  an opening partnership of 184 by Huw  Beaverstock (105) and Steve  Meaden (75) took them to  276-6. Roy Hudman took 4-78  for Brecon.

Brecon looked like getting  the runs as captain Steve  Kenchington scored 67 and  John Morgan 42 but they  ended up five runs short on  271-6.

Chris Owen took 3-55 for  Miskin Manor and stand-in  wicket keeper Glen Newberry  made three stumpings and  then broke a finger.

Vale lost to Barry at  Corntown after going in first  and making 122 all out. Nick  Hogben scored 37 and Matthew Williams 31 as Peter Hellyar had 4-24 for Barry, Steve  Jones 2-31 off 10 overs and  Billy Uswald 2-4.

Nathan Baker (65) then  steered Barry to a comfortable  seven wicket victory.

Radyr reached 281-5 at  home to Ebbw Vale with veteran Dave Skirrow getting 65,  Rhys Lloyd 53, Amir Brohi 35,  Chris Van Os 34, Howard  Stone 32 and Nick O’Neill 29  not out.

Ebbw Vale never looked like  reaching that but Dave Windross scored 45, Nick Pepper  23 and Robson Blake 21 in  their total of 155 all out. John  Corden took 3-41 for Radyr,  Rhys Lloyd 2-19 and Brohi  2-38.

Pontymister stretched their  lead at the top of Division  Three by beating Pencoed  while Lisvane were losing at  Ponthir.

Pencoed managed 214-9 off  their 50 overs with Paul Morgan (42no), Rhys Thomas (23)  and James Smith (20) the best  of their batsmen as Amanullah Armani returned 10-2-40-4  for Pontymister, Abbas Ashraf  4-1-14-2 and Zulfi Ali 8-0-38-2.

Pontymister chased down  the total in 34 overs with  Lewis Tovey scoring 67, Daniel  Jones (57) making his maiden  half-century for the club and  Ali getting 32.

Lisvane went in first at  Ponthir and closed on 136-9  with Sree Reddivari making  59 and John Lee Yella 34.  Matt Dennehy took 3-36 for  Ponthir, John  Price 2-34 and  Jamie Evans 2-36.

Lewis Spinetti (58), Jack  Norman (43) and Gareth Bartlett (41no) then led Ponthir to  a three wicket win with Alex  Curry taking 3-35 for Lisvane  and Chris Kyriakou 2-47.

Rugby international  Geraint Lewis helped Llantwit Fardre to beat Whitchurch  Heath. Lewis made 70, Matthew Walsh 49 and Stuart  Clarke 42 as Fardre set a target of 261-8. Chris Rogers took  3-49 for Heath and Danni Zaman 2-31

Raheem Ali made 51 and  Alex Webb 38 but Heath  could only get 208-9 as Neilson  Smith took 3-28 for Fardre,  Lewis 2-30 and Clarke 2-51.

Former Newport batsman  Rhydian Knox top scored with  35 as Machen were dismissed  for 144 by visitors Dinas Powis  for whom, swing bowler Nathan Piddock took 6-33.

Dinas Powis got the runs for  two wickets as Gordon Hannah made 69 and Brychan  Tudor 36.

Cardiff Gymkhana amassed  297-0 at Monmouth with  Tanuj Singh scoring 81, Imran  Jaura 47, Majid Karim 37,  Tehmoor Tariq 28 and Adil  Raja 24 while Richard Shaw  took 3-33, Jonathan Jones  20-60 and Ben Turner 2-61.

Monmouth managed 211 all  out with Ian Morgan making  63 and Dave Croudace 44 as  Murad Mughal took 3-30 for  Gymkhana, Karim 2-29 and  Mansoor Ali 2-39.
