A cyclist is being treated for a serious head injury following a collision in Abergavenny yesterday.
South Wales Police said the crash between two cyclists and a van happened at 8.50pm last night on the A40 between Steelhorse Cafe and the Hardwick Roundabout.
It is thought the accident happened during an event connected to the Abergavenny Festival of Cycling.
The cyclists were riding towards the Abergavenny area, and the van in the opposite direction.
A 26-year-old male cyclists from Cardiff was injured and is currently in a critical condition in Abergavenny’s Nevill Hall Hospital. The second rider, a 33-year-old man from Abertillery, received minor injuries.
Wales Ambulance Service said it was called to the scene at 8.58pm, and took a man to Nevill Hall with a serious head injury.
Abergavenny-born world cycling champion Becky James tweeted her shock after the incident, while Cardiff cycling club Cardiff JIF said one of those involved belonged to fellow city club Cardiff Ajax CC.

Abergavenny Festival of Cycling is running from July 8 to July 14, and includes the Grand Prix of Wales on Sunday.
It is understood last night’s collision happened during an event organised by Welsh Cycling.
