If you are a looking to own or privately rent a property, Blaenau Gwent is the most affordable option in Britain – other parts of Wales with high affordability are Merthyr Tydfil, RCT and NPT.
Couples with no children who are in the bottom 25% of earnings can expect to pay a third or more of their income in rent on a one bed property in Cardiff and Vale of Glamorgan. The same is true for couples with one child renting a two bed property.
Couples with no children who are in the bottom 25% of earnings can expect to pay a third or more of their income in mortgage on a one bed property in Vale of Glamorgan, Monmouthshire, Pembrokeshire and Ceredigion.
Couples with one child who are in the bottom 25% of earnings can expect to pay a third or more of their income in mortgage on a two bed property in Vale of Glamorgan, Cardiff, Monmouthshire, Conwy and Ceredigion – in Monmouthshire, it tops 41%.
Couples with two children who are in the bottom 25% of earnings can expect to pay a third or more of their income in rent on a one bed property in Cardiff, Vale of Glamorgan and Monmouthshire. The same group can expect to pay more than third on mortgages for a two bed property in Vale of Glamorgan, Cardiff, Powys, Ceredigion and Monmouthshire – 40% in Monmouthshire and Cardiff.
