Glamorgan offered Kettleborough deal

Glamorgan have confirmed they have offered young batsman James Kettleborough a two-year contract with the club.

The 21-year-old made his debut for Northamptonshire earlier in the summer and went onto make nine appearances for the Steelbacks, putting in some impressive performances along the way.

Kettleborough, who consistently made high scores for the 2nd XI, including 120 against Kent 2nd XI, finished his first senior season with a top score of 73.

The youngster was unable to stop Northamptonshire being relegated from division one though as they finished the campaign winless, with just 79 points obtained.

It is likely that Kettleborough will make the switch to Glamorgan for next season and Hugh Morris, chief executive and director of cricket for the club, said the batsman is a very exciting prospect.

“At a time when we are re-building our squad, especially in four-day cricket, James’ talent has impressed us, he has scored three half-centuries in the first division of the Championship to confirm that he is a young player of real potential, as testified by his outstanding record at Bedford School,” he said.

“We believe that James, together with our highly promising crop of home-grown youngsters, can play a major part in the Club’s development in the course of the next few years.”

Glamorgan are in desperate need to bring in some batting reinforcements after the club announced earlier in the month that batsmen Murray Goodwin, Gareth Rees, Mike Reed, Stewart Walters and Tom Lancefield were all to leave at the end of the season.
