Glamorgan have signed Northamptonshire opener James Kettleborough, according to the English county’s chief executive David Smith.
Kettleborough, 21, joins the Welsh county after
Smith told BBC Radio Northampton: “We offered James a one-year contract… but he’s decided to go to Glamorgan.
“In terms of where we are, we felt as a team that one-year was sufficient at this stage. Quite rightly. James has decided to make a fresh start of it.”
Smith says Northamptonshire would not have used Kettleborough in one-day games – or “white ball” cricket – next season.
“We don’t see him playing white ball cricket next season, we see him very much as a Championship player,” said Smith.
The four departing Glamorgan batsmen were retiring Murray Goodwin, 41, and Gareth Rees retired while the contracts of Stewart Walters, 31, and Tom Lancefield, 23, have not been renewed.
Glamorgan finished second from bottom of County Championship Division Two in 2014.
