Live cricket: Glamorgan v Gloucestershire – follow the action from the Swalec …

Day Three

Glamorgan and Gloucestershire endured a frustrating day as rain prevented any play on the third day at Cardiff.

The Welsh county were set to resume on 271-9, needing to score five more runs for a first-innings lead.

However, steady drizzle kept both sides in the dressing rooms.

Umpires Rob Bailey and Steve Garrett ordered an early tea at 14:40 BST, but with no sign of a let-up in the weather, they abandoned play for the day soon after.

Day Two

JIM ALLENBY again  demonstrated his importance to  Glamorgan as the all-rounder  once more held the Welsh  county together in their final  match of the summer.

The 31-year-old wrapped up  the Gloucestershire innings for  275 after taking the final two  wickets on the second morning  of the County Championship  match at the Swalec Stadium.

Allenby followed up with his  10th score past 50 this summer  and surpassing 1,200 first-class  runs for the 2013 season.

His contribution of 85 alongside Chris Cooke (50) and Ruaidhri Smith (39) helped Glamorgan to 271 for nine at the  close, a first innings deficit of  just four.

Gloucestershire resumed the  second day on 228 for eight and  a tedious morning session followed as they added just  47  more runs.

Allenby took the final two  wickets of Graeme McCarter  and Matt Taylor to finish with  miserly figures of three for 31  from 19 overs.

In reply, Glamorgan slipped to  12 for two with Gareth Rees  (seven) caught by Chris Dent at  second slip from McCarter and  Will Gidman trapping Ben  Wright (0) lbw.

Murray Goodwin, promoted  to opening the innings after Will  Bragg had been dropped, never  looked comfortable for his  44-ball 14.

The former Zimbabwe Test  star was caught by Dent from  Taylor before Cooke and Allenby shared a fourth-wicket  stand of 56.

Cooke, Glamorgan’s YB40 top  scorer this summer with 546,   brought up his third first-class  50 in 66 balls just before he was  bowled by Taylor before tea.

This brought North Walian  David Lloyd to the crease for his  first start of the season. Lloyd  had made two appearance at the  end of last summer where he  suffered three noughts before  an unbeaten 11 against Kent.

The 21-year-old surpassed  this with an encouraging 16 before he became Gidman’s  second victim when Dent took a  third slip catch.

Gidman soon struck again as  captain Mark Wallace edged behind to fellow Abergavenny and  Welsh wicket-keeper Cameron  Herring.

Allenby brought up his 50 in  68 balls with six fours and a six  but was dropped twice from Will  Gidman by his brother Alex at  slip and Herring.

Graham Wagg, who was  awarded his county cap on the  opening day in Cardiff, was the  next to fall when he was trapped  lbw by McCarter for 10.

Allenby and promising teenager Smith shared an  eighth-wicket stand of 48 before  Allenby became Dent’s fourth  slip victim with Taylor taking  the prized wicket.

Smith, 19, bowled an impressive spell on the opening evening  and followed this up with his  useful first-class batting best before edging Gidman to Herring.

Dean Cosker and Michael  Hogan added some lusty blows  with a final wicket stand of 27 to  close in on Gloucestershire’ first  innings total.

Day one

Seamer Michael Hogan claimed his 100th wicket of the season as Glamorgan restricted Gloucestershire on the opening day of their LV= County Championship match at Cardiff.

Gloucestershire had reached 228 for eight in their first innings from 82.1 overs when bad light ended play at 5.30pm.

It was Glamorgan’s first game since they went down to Nottinghamshire in last Saturday’s Yorkshire Bank 40 final at Lord’s.

The Welsh county made three changes to their side which drew last week with Essex at Chelmsford with Jim Allenby, Graham Wagg and David Lloyd replacing Will Bragg, Andrew Salter and John Glover.

Hogan struck at the start of the seventh over to reach the landmark by bowling opener Gareth Roderick.

That was after Glamorgan won the toss and put Gloucestershire in to bat in helpful bowling conditions.

Hogan now has 65 wickets in the Championship, 28 in the Yorkshire Bank 40 and eight in the Friends Life t20.

But from 12 for one Gloucestershire recovered either side of lunch with Dent reaching his half-century from 77 balls shortly before the interval.

By lunch the visitors looked quite well set but in the afternoon they struggled going from 90 for one to 176 for six.

With the total on 90 Allenby bowled Alex Gidman and Dent, who had looked well set for a century edged slow left armer Dean Cosker into the Australian’s hands at slip.

Cosker struck again next ball to have Iain Cockbain also caught at slip by Allenby from a turning delivery.

With the total on 156 Gloucestershire lost Hamish Marshall, who is 10 short of reaching 1,000 runs for the season, as he edged Wagg behind.

In the penultimate over before tea Cameron Herring was trapped lbw by Hogan.

Ruaidhri Smith struck twice bowling Benny Howell and then had Gidman caught behind.

Glamorgan took the second new ball, but with the cloud cover having increased, the light deteriorated and forced the players off with 13.5 overs left of the day.
