Poster boy’s ‘trashy’ show of art

Misfit Love is the first exhibition of original illustrations by gig poster designer and horror movie fanatic Adam Chard, more widely known by his work nom-de-plume Croatoan.

Those attending the exhibition, which opens at The SHO Gallery in Cardiff can expect lovingly-inked zombies, monsters and video nasties – trash culture pumped through a rotten heart.

“I’ve been working as a freelance designer for the last three years, specialising in gig posters and album artwork,” explains Chard.

“When the opportunity to exhibit at SHO came up, I wanted to create an exhibition around the things that have always influenced me, like trashy horror films and ’50s sci-fi.

“It’s more the fun, low-budget side to those genres that I love, as opposed to dark and gory; movies where you can see the sets wobble or the joins in the rubber suits.

“The exhibition will feature a load of new original illustrations inspired by various movies, books and comics – some recognisable, some maybe not so much, unless you went through all the dusty 50p VHS rentals when you were 15 too!”

Misfit Love runs at  The SHO Gallery
,  Cardiff from September 7 to 21
