An animal-loving couple have made a giant bed so they can sleep with their beloved pets.

Reddit user Robdogbird and his girlfriend have built an 11ft-long bunk for them to share with their five cats and two dogs.

‘Epic neat freak’ Robdogbird, who is believed to be from America, fashioned the impressive design out of two mattresses and a DIY storage base.

It is so big that the creature-obsessed couple regularly have to wash four lots of bedding, and rarely bother to make the bed unless guests are expected.

Sharing how he made the giant bed, Robdogbird said that they already had a king spring mattress, and they bought a full foam mattress to add to it.

They needed extra storage, so instead of opting for a bed frame or box-spring, he framed out storage – making it even so they could lay the mattresses on top.

Fellow Reddit user dogsmakebestpeeps sensibly asked: ‘How do you get sheets and blankets for that? And what do you do about the split between mattresses?’

To which Robdogbird replied: ‘The seam is noticeable when you lay across it…sheets are just one set full and one king, matching if we can find them. The comforters are just two full [size] and cover it perfectly.’

The 75 sq ft crib has been a huge hit with the couple’s pets, Pomeranian Lexi and Lola the Chihuahua plus cats Bear, Zoey, Kitty, Prince Caspian and Isha.

As their furry friends spend so much time on the bed, the couple have to spend a lot of time ensuring that it stays clean and tidy.

‘Huge pain in the ass to make it,’ wrote Robdogbird. ‘Honestly we only do if people are coming over otherwise it’s a giant pile of pillows, blankets, cats and dogs.

‘Because the animals love it so much we do have to wash four loads of bedding regularly.’

He added: ‘I’m an epic neat freak, have cat litter enclosed and vented, carpet shampoo regularly.

‘Not wonderful if it goes long without cleaning but I love all these damn animals too much to get rid of any of them… (and my girlfriend would kill me if I tried.)’

Indeed, the couple have no regrets about turning their modest-sized bedroom into a gigantic mattress saying: ‘Still, one of our schemes I am most satisfied with.’

The image of the enormous bed has also been posted to image-sharing website Imgur. It has attracted nearly 1.5 million views and more than 500 comments.

Some fans called it ‘amazing’ and said they ‘love it’ writing: ‘As a 6’5” guy, this is my dream bed.’

While another added: ‘As a mum of five, it’s my dream bed. Have a queen, get kicked out of bed every night. Little Blighters won’t stay in their own beds.’

However others weren’t so keen.

‘Am I the only dog owner that doesn’t let my dog sleep in my bed?’ said one.

While another wrote: ‘My dog has his own bed. Doesn’t matter if he’s clean, he still smells like a damn dog. People are gross sometimes.’
