Svengali star Jonny Owen lands E4 drama from This Is England writer

Svengali creator Jonny Owen will star in a new eight-part edgy youth drama, Glue for E4.

The Merthryr-born actor, who said it was a “great part”, will appear opposite Rizzle Kicks’ Jordan Stephens, Submarine’s Yasmin Paige and Line of Duty’s Charlotte Spencer.

Also signed up are Shallow Grave’s Kerry Fox and former EastEnders actress Kierston Waring.

Glue looks at the dark underbelly of a rural community when bored teenagers are caught up in a murder.

Channel 4 said the series was “twisted and wayward, tragic and comic” and will take audiences on a “wild and thrilling ride” as the mystery of a boy whose body is found beneath a tractor unravels.

Commissioning editor for Channel 4, Sophie Gardiner, said: “The line-up reads like a roll-call of some of the brightest up-and-coming talent around. We can’t wait for them to bring our bold new series to life. Brace yourselves for a trip to the countryside, E4-style.”

Glue has been written by Jack Thorne who has worked on hits such as Skins, This Is England and The Fades.

Shooting has recently begun in Berkshire and it’s due to air in the autumn.
