Three men have been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after they were spotted driving a car through Caerphilly with what looked like a gun.
Armed police pulled the car over after a call was made from a concerned member of the public at 2.45pm today.
Eyewitnesses reported around 30 officers swarming around the car, a green Volkswagen Golf, after it was pulled over outside the Caerphilly Social Club, near the town’s castle.
A Gwent Police spokeswoman said all three men were arrested “on suspicion of firearms offences”.
One of the men was also arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of drink or drugs, while another of the three was arrested on suspicion of possession of a class A drug.
The spokeswoman added: “We received a report at 2.45pm that a number of men were seen in a vehicle on Cardiff Road, Caerphilly, with what looked like a firearm.
“The vehicle was stopped by police, and will be recovered for examination.
“Three men have been arrested in connection with the incident and are currently in police custody.
“Enquiries are being undertaken.”
