TV: 4 top treats to cwtch up for tonight

The Great British Sewing Bee, BBC Two, 8pm

The three finalists enter the sewing room for the very last time time in the battle to be crowned Britain’s best amateur home sewer.

After Welsh contestant   Lynda Lewis   left last week, it is left to either Tamara, Chinel or Heather to be crowned the winner.

Tonight, they enter the sewing room for the last time, as sewing expert May Martin and Savile Row’s Patrick Grant decide who the champion will be.

The first surprise pattern tasks the sewers to make a man’s silk tie, with the judges expecting nothing less than perfection. While the second challenge sees them chopping up wedding dresses.

After the surprise departure of the lovely Lynda, the remaining three each bring a different set of skills to the sewing table. Chinelo is the least experienced, but her ability to knock up a garment without needing a pattern is enviable, Tamara is wildly creative, which can sometimes be her downfall, while Heather’s strength lies in her technical ability and horsey metaphors.

As they go into the final furlong to design and make a couture gown, all three are neck and neck. Compulsive viewing.

Shetland, BBC One, 9pm

As the powerful murder mystery series set against the stunning backdrop of the Shetland islands continues, Perez returns to his childhood home on the island of Fair Isle to investigate the murder of a scientist. In the final two-part drama of the series, tensions run high when a storm on the mainland forces Perez to work in isolation, and all of the murder suspects are compelled to remain on the island in close proximity to one another.

When visiting scientist Anna Blake is found murdered in her lab in the island’s bird observatory, the only suspects appear to be Anna’s immediate family and fellow scientists.

Perez and Tosh arrive on Fair Isle to be greeted by Perez’s father, James, just before the flights to the island are grounded due to incoming storms.

They soon realise they’ll have to work alone without access to a forensics team.

Tosh goes in search of Peter Latimer, a student scientist missing since Anna’s body was discovered. Meanwhile, Perez interviews Anna’s distraught husband, Frank, but his despair turns to anger when he’s probed about sleeping separately from his wife. Later, when Perez questions Latimer, he too grows defensive and demands a solicitor, raising further suspicion.

When Sandy discovers Peter and Anna had a secret meeting in Lerwick two weeks previously, Peter Latimer becomes the prime suspect.

However, when scientist Finlay Caulfield is caught trying to damage a memory card from his camera, Perez uncovers an inappropriate obsession with Anna.

As secrets and lies unravel, suspicions grow but there’s a shock in store which will rock Perez’s investigation and strike fear in the small Fair Isle community.

The Call Centre, BBC Three, 9pm

Nev Wilshire has not had the best of years, in fact in Nev speak it has been an  “Annus Anus”, but now the CEO of the Save Britain Money call centre is back hiring staff and is returning to our screens for a second series of the surprise hit series.

Banned by HR (they have an HR department!) from conducting interviews, Nev flouts the rules by giving new recruit Stuart a grilling, but will the company’s ‘gingerist policy’ count against him?

And we are introduced to Nev’s son, commercial director Phil, who has an idea to lift spirits and put him on the map. Is he a chip off the old block? And why have Hayley the tea lady’s armpits gone green?

Are we really ready for a new series of the show and will it still have the same appeal series one had for some? Find out what our critic thought of the first episode  here .

Rhod Gilbert’s Work Experience, BBC One, 10.35pm

Rhod heads off on a wilderness survival camp with 200 eager Swansea Scouts in this latest episode of his Work Experience series.

For filming, Rhod spent a week as a leader with the 44th Sketty Group. At the end of the week he takes the Scouts to a camp in Silver Cross camp for scouts.

Before this, the closest Rhod has ever come to taking kids camping is walking past a camping shop with his nephew, so can the anarchic comedian lead a group of 12-year-olds safely through a forest.

The real test, however, is whether or not the Welsh funnyamn Rhod will be able to bite his tongue when his tent comes under attack at 7am by the kitchen utensil band.
