What’s on in Wales: 5 things to do today

Make the most of the spring sunshine, with our round-up of events and activities in Wales today (Thursday, May 15).

1. Herbs for Beginners at The Veg Box Centre, Cwmbran

If you’re looking for some gardening advice and want to learn how to grow your own herbs, then you’ll want to attend this two-hour workshop. The Veg Box Centre will be holding Herbs for Beginners at 10am, where you’ll get top tips on planting and advice on herbs’ culinary uses.

Places are limited, but the event is free. You can book your space online via the Growing the Future website.

2. Gerard McChrystal at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, Cardiff

Enjoy a lunchtime concert at Dora Stoutzker Hall from 1.15pm, as Irish saxophonist Gerard McChrystal brings a Celtic flavour to the stage.

Tickets are priced at £8 for standard and £3 for students. You can book online or via the box office on 029 2039 1391.

3. Bluebell, Floral and Wildlife Walk at Colby Woodland Garden, Pembrokeshire

Go for a gentle hour-long guided walk around Colby Woodland Garden from 2pm. See fantastic floral displays including beautiful bluebells and learn about the site’s wildlife and history.

The walk is priced at £2, with children welcome to attend if accompanied by an adult. Book your place on 018 3481 1885.

4. The Plant Hunters’ Legacy at Bodnant Garden, Conwy

Join expert Ted Brabin and discover rare rhododendrons in a guided tour of Bodnant Garden at 2pm. This great 80-acre garden also has heaps of history and Ted will be explaining the story behind the flowers and the people that originally planted them.

The event is free to attend, although you’ll need to book a place on 014 9265 0460. There is an admission charge to enter the garden, with entry priced at £9.50 for adults, £4.75 for children and £8.07 for a group adult ticket.

5. Tea and Talks at Bedwellty House and Park, Blaenau Gwent

Find out more about the heritage of the local area with the monthly talk at Bedwellty House and Park from 2.30pm. In this month’s event, speaker Paul Meredith will be discussing the conservation at Big Pit.

It’s free to attend if you would like to go along, with Bedwellty Houseoffering tea or coffee and a slice of cake for £3.
