Cardiff Local Guide A guide to all Things Cardiff
Cardiff City Player’s Club Goal of the Month initiative has new participation – courtesy of our brand new City Staff v Fans fixtures that come under the banner of#YouBirds
#YouBirdsmatches will take place each month throughout the season at a number of different Cardiff City related locations, with an outstanding goal from each event entering the ClubGOTM competition. Supporters will continue to stand a chance of winning a unique hospitality experience at a Sky Bet Championship match by voting in Club GOTM.
The first #YouBirds match took place this past Thurdsay on the Futsal courts at the House of Sport Two facility. Academy and First Team squads throughout the season, as well as other local clubs and professional sports teams utilise the House of Sport. Six chosen fans were given a fantastic opportunity to sample the facilities for themselves against a Cardiff City Staff select team on Thursday evening.
Cardiff City Player’s own ‘Half Time’ Wayne Crichton may have to adjust his microphone stance during tomorrow’s game against Wolfsburg! Wayne braved a pre-match injury to take his place in goal for the City Staff team, despite significant swelling and pain in his wrist – true dedication from the man between the sticks. We all wish Wayne a quick recovery. Hard lines butt!
The 40-minute showdown between two strong sides saw a number of exquisite goals – with fans Jason Trinder, Nathan Watkins, Simon Ritter and Lloyd Davies putting in strong contenders for ClubGOTM. Both City super fans Dan Reilly and Rhys John were incredibly unfortunate not to get on the score-sheet themselves with a number of superb efforts at goal.
Despite their valiant effort though, the Fans team were defeated – Simon Evans, of the legal department, firing home the golden goal to seal victory for City Staff and ensure no route back for our visitors. Highlights of the opening game can be seen below:
